Halo PC Manual Halo CE's latest official version is v1.10 (2014), and has 3 community patches: HAC 2 (2016), OpenSauce v4 (2015), and Chimera (in active development). Open Sauce and HAC 2 are incompatible with each other, therefore it is recommended to switch to HAC 2 when playing multiplayer (adds map downloading), and OpenSauce when playing singleplayer (enhances graphics, and some maps.
Skulls were first introduced to the Halo series with Halo 2. Skulls are two things: first, physically they are human skulls that can be picked up in a number of hidden locations throughout the campaign; second, they are easter eggs that add special gameplay modifiers.
Traditionally, most of Halo 2's Legendary Skulls can only be found on Legendary, although there are a few exceptions. In the original Halo 2 their hidden gameplay modifiers would instantly take effect and could not be turned off until the game is turned off. In Halo 2 Anniversary the skulls merely grant achievements. Skull abilities are unlocked from the start and can be toggled before launching a mission.
The following is a list of Halo 2 Legendary Skulls according to level:

Level: The Armory
Word: Whuppopotamus
Effect: AI become more observant, noticing even active camouflage, shadows, the sound of reloading or drawing a weapon, footsteps, etc. They also have better accuracy and are much less likely to kill themselves or their teammates with explosive weapons.
At the beginning of the level, after you power your shields for the first time, Sergeant Johnson shows up on an elevator. Wait in the room until Johnson starts berating you, telling you to get into the elevator. You MUST wait for him to say, 'Would it help if I said please?' This takes approximately four minutes and forty seconds. Once he says this, get in the elevator, and go up to the tram. Get on the tram, and face towards the INSIDE of the building. Press up against the glass doors towards the inside of the building. You should hold X down, and you should pick up the Skull. It's on a stack of crates, near the end of the tram ride.

Level:Cairo Station
Word: Thunderstorm
Effect: Promotes most enemies to their highest rank. Does not affect Flood Human Combat Forms or Marines.
Difficulty: Any
Level: Outskirts
Word: Blind
Effect: Your HUD becomes completely invisible as well as your weapon, except the Energy Sword.
When you start the level, go through the door and kill the Grunt there. Backtrack and right above the first door you came through there is a light. Crouch Jump onto that and either Crouch Jump or Grenade Jump again (Crouch jumping is easier), and you should be on the roof (or you can get the Sputnik Skull and only use one grenade). Look for a space between the two buildings, and go into it, at the end there should be four Fragmentation Grenades, a spotting scope, and the Skull in front of them.

Level: Outskirts
Word: IWHBYD
Effect: Rare combat dialogue becomes more common.
This skull has a random chance of spawning (possibly a one in seven chance, referenced by the '1' and '7' posters in the room containing the skull) when the game loads the Jackal snipers in the alley after the clearing where Johnson is picked up in the pelican. You may skip the beginning part of the level by using the rooftops, but if the Jackal snipers in the alley are loaded while you are on the rooftops, the skull may not ever load, so it is recommended that you enter the alley on foot. The following guide is the fastest and easiest route to the skull. It is strongly advised that you activate the permanent invisibility glitch for this.
From the beginning of Outskirts, run into the first hallway and then look overhead. You will see two lights on either side of the hallway. Jump on to one of them, and then crouch jump up to the higher platform. From there turn around and run along the ledge to the right of the alleyway below.
Across from it, you will see another platform. Jump to it, then Grenade Jump or double jump onto yet another higher level. From there, look left and you will see a nearby rooftop, jump to it; go to the right and head down that alley, where you'll be able to jump onto the higher rooftop. Continue to the other side of the rooftop and drop down to the street. Turn right and head toward the open area, where you can hide from the Jackals' fire behind the large truck. Once you hear that the Jackals have been killed by your allies, you can head towards the ramp ahead, but DO NOT go past the top of the ramp. Wait for the checkpoint if it hasn't happened already, then save and quit the game. This checkpoint is before the Jackal snipers in the alley are spawned, which is when the game calculates the random chance of whether the skull spawns or not. This is the checkpoint you will reload if the skull does not spawn.
Unfortunately, the game automatically checkpoints a little bit after you enter the alley as well, locking in the 'dice roll' of the skull spawn. It is important that this checkpoint is skipped, which you can do by constantly meleeing as you run through this next part. As long as you are meleeing, the game will not save a checkpoint. If it does checkpoint, you can exit the game entirely without saving (turning off the console) and reload your saved checkpoint, or kill yourself five times quickly to revert to the pre-alley checkpoint.
Head through the alley, and you should see a dumpster to your right. Jump onto the dumpster and onto the nearby roof. Jump onto the pipes attactched to the wall, onto the platform, and then leap to the roof across the alley. Head diagonally forward and right onto the roof just past bridge-like structure and turn left. You should see a balcony across the alley with a doorway. Stop meleeing now. Enter this doorway and look at the ground to the right. Wait about ten seconds. A checkpoint will occur, and the skull may or not appear at the same time as the checkpoint. If there is no skull, reload the pre-alley checkpoint, either by killing yourself five times or by quitting the game without saving, and try again.
If you want to save the Skull, (in case you fail in the fight with the Elites) you should exit the room and proceed to get another checkpoint. Save and quit. Restart and go back to room with the Skull. It will always be there. When you grab the Skull, you'll be transported into the alley. You will have only a Plasma Pistol, and must fight off seven waves of Ultra Elites (wave one starting with one Elite, wave two with two Elites, and so on).
This is much easier with the permanent invisibility glitch. If you die in the alley with no checkpoint after the checkpoint in the Skull room, there will be several white flashes, you will be reverted to the checkpoint in the Skull room, the Skull will disappear sometimes and will not take effect. Also, if you attempt to escape the alley, you will get teleported to the Elites' position and lose all your collected weapons. Once you kill all seven waves, the Skull will become active.
If you get a checkpoint while fighting the Elites, save and quit. You will restart where you saved and then you can continue killing them. Saving here will enable you to load the IWHBYD effect (by killing the remainder of the Elites) after the Xbox is turned off, although the actual Skull will not be reloaded.
If you manage to get the skull to spawn (appear) then do not grab it straight away; walk around for a while until you get an another checkpoint then get the skull, That way if you die while battling the seven waves of elites, you can just try again instead of having to restart the level
You can battle the Elites with the skull if you so desire. To do this, the second you grab the skull, leave the room and drop it over the balcony. It will fall into the alley you fight the Elites in and sometimes will go straight into your hands.

Word: Catch
Effect: Allies and enemies throw grenades with increased frequency. They will also drop more grenades upon death.
Right after you get out of the sewers(Tunnel), there is a big area and 2 ghosts, kill every thing first, then go to the middle of it where you see a arc that leads up onto a building, grenade jump by it to get enough height to start climbing it. When you get to the top take a left and hug the wall around the structure and the skull will be there.

Level:The Arbiter
Word: Grunt Birthday Party
Effect: Shoot enemy in the head and they will explode.
The very first time you get a banshee, fly down, below you is a large beamlike structure (not to be confused with the one directly below you that turns and goes vertical) running from the arm of the station you just came out of to one exactly like it on the side opposite. Below this structure are 3 cylinders hanging down, with cylinders of light shooting out of the bottom that look like they are what keeps the station floating. If my explanation is too vague, they are the absolute lowest parts of the station. Now go to the middle engine and land on the top part of it. This and the other engines connect to the large structure mentioned earlier. The tops of the engines come up to meet the structure at an angle, where this angle is under the connecting structure and coming up to meet it, there is a place to walk (like being under a bridge). Under one side you will see the six grunts with the skull in the middle.

Effect: Weapons picked up only have half ammo.
After getting off the long elevator ride, you will come to a room where convent and flood are fighting below you, and you have to break the glass to get to where they are fighting. If you crouch/grenade jump up on the opposite side of where you came down, the skull should be up there.

Level:Delta Halo
Word: Envy
Effect: Cloak instead of Flashlight, 5 second cloak with 10 second recharge
When you first come out of the big building and see the turret and 5/6 shield up on the wall there is a wall over to the left hand side with the two grunt turrets on it, the big block and door are at the far end of that wall... In the room that the block is blocking there are two dead grunts and two plasma swords. There's a door being blocked by a rock. Jump on the rock. Then jump on the ledge that's located above the blocked doorway. Turn left and jump up on another ledge. Grenade jump up to where you'll find Two Red Elites - That become cloaked, surrounding a skull. Pick it up, and it reads Envy.

Level:Regret
Word: Assassins
Effect: All enemies in game are permanently cloaked, AI cannot see them and so are no help at all.
Just after you get off the gondola, and go in the structure, there is a big block of stone, jump on that an you can get on a ledge that leads out to the Covenant turrets, facing back towards the structure, jump up another level around the right side of the structure, It is pretty straight lined from here. You should find the Skull on a ledge when you make it around. No visible change to the HUD, BUT all enemies become invisible.

Level:Sacred Icon
Word: Mythic
Effect: Enemy health and shields becomes equivalent to the next highest difficulty (ex. Easy becomes Normal and Legendary becomes Mythic).
After coming down from a piston, about halfway through the level, you’ll come to a room completely filled with Flood fog. Go into the room and you’ll see a stack of crates. Jump on top (while cloaked would probably work better, so the Flood don’t notice you), and across to the next highest level. If you look in the last hole in the wall, you’ll see the skull in with a dead Flood.

Level:Quarantine Zone
Word: Sputnik
Effect: Explosions and melee have more of an effect on objects, which may be the result of less gravity. Enemies who are meleed will also be turned around, making for an easy assassination.
From the start of the level, look to your left for an Elite. To the left of the Elite there is a tunnel. Head into the tunnel and go straight until you reach a cliff. Now turn left and follow the cliff till you reach a rock wall. To the right of the wall and the cliff is a narrow ledge, skull is at the end of that ledge.
Difficulty: Legendary
Level:Gravemind
Word: Angry
Effect: Enemies have a faster fire rate and will shoot more often.
Fight all the way through the Covenant city until you reach the outdoors. As soon as you are outside, stick to the right-hand side and walk along the wall. You should see a Covenant wall thingy with a red rail on it. Jump up to it (crouch jump helps) and at the end there is the Anger skull in a small grav-lift.
Difficulty: Legendary
Level:Uprising
Word: Ghost
Effect: Enemies cannot be staggered.
Once you reach the armory (where, amongst other weapons, a Fuel Rod and Rocket Launcher can be found), pick up some Frag Grenades on the right side of the room. Once you have these, walk out of the door on the opposite side of the room, turn around (facing the armory door, and grenade jump up to a platform above the door. This is the Ghost skull.

Level:High Charity
Word: Iron
Effect: Allies are immune to melee attacks
On the final grav-lift on 'high Charity', look up. A skull will pass you by. Hold X as it passes you to receive the status.
Difficulty: Legendary
Level: Great Journey
Word: Black Eye
Effect: Shield won’t regenerate, when you melee someone you get energy power back, so if you melee someone you get a little bit of shield. So you can get a bit at a time all the way to overshield!
SGT Johnson will pilot the scarab and shoot at a building I am calling the Control Tower. If you take a banshee to the tower you will notice that, aside from where spires jut out of it, it has a round slope all the way around. If you take the banshee right up to the slope and as high as you can go, you can almost get over it. Here you must jump out of your banshee to land on the less steep part of the slope. If you turn your banshee to the side or all the way around, it may make it easier to land on the less steep part. Also, try to have your banshee land on a platform below, so you can use it to get back. Once you are on the slope, climb the rest of the way up it. If you are on the right of the door, then you have to jump onto the ledge next to the main part of the building, and then walk up a steep part in the direction of the door. Walk up that, then around and down on the other side. On this side (left of the door from scarab's perspective) you can walk onto the hills and grass. You will notice several angled spires, some of which connect to the building. You must climb the one that is directly opposite the door you would use to enter the tower. It's steep but you can walk up it. I suggest jumping while walking to speed up the process. At the top is a skull which gives you the 'black eye' effect - you only recover shields by meleeing enemies. This is only found on legendary. Reverse the process to get back to your banshee (hopefully) or just jump off a cliff and the effect will stay with you.
